What is the Barracks?

The Barracks turns the first economic investments into combat-ready infantry and sets the pace of the early game. Through it, the basic economy becomes a steady flow of troops: infantry forms a defensive line, reinforces a mobile squad, or prepares for an attack. Until more advanced production buildings appear, the Barracks is what turns ore and energy into direct control of territory.

Three infantry roles

The Peacemaker attacks both ground and air and fits most compositions. The Devastator protects the base from Lynxes and deals increased damage to heavy ground targets. The Titan moves slowly but absorbs heavy damage and threatens both ground and air units.

Production rate

One Barracks is enough for occasional reinforcements in a mixed army, but producing Peacemakers, Devastators, or Titans in large numbers requires additional Barracks. A Barracks can be placed closer to the front or hidden near the enemy base, but this strategy requires an early investment and leaves less ore for the economy.

Unit access

Peacemakers are available immediately, the Devastator becomes available after the Factory is built, and the Titan additionally requires a Laboratory.

Building the Barracks unlocks the Factory and subsequent tiers of the tech tree.

Infantry by the numbers: cost, energy, time

The Barracks itself consumes no energy, but every ordered unit reserves energy the moment it is queued — before it even leaves the building. That is why production is planned around three numbers at once: ore, energy, and time.

The Devastator requires a completed Factory, and the Titan also needs a Laboratory. For how the overall energy balance works and what to do when the game warns “Build more reactors”, see the Reactor page.

Production queue and rally point

Building an early Barracks near the enemy base

Note: this requires precise control of the Peacemaker.

  1. Producing two Workers at the start of an early Peacemaker attackProduce two Workers, but send the first one to the opponent’s base.
  2. A Worker heads to the enemy base to build a BarracksAs soon as the Worker reaches the opponent’s base, build a Barracks.
  3. A Reactor is built at home during an early Peacemaker attackWhen you have 10 ore, use the second Worker to build a Reactor at your base.
  4. The first Peacemaker attacks the enemy economyProduce a Peacemaker and try to damage the opponent’s economy as much as possible.

Upgrades in the Barracks

Armor IArmor IIArmor IIIThe three levels progressively increase the base health of Peacemakers, Devastators, and Titans by 10%, 20%, and 30%. The upgrades cost 10, 20, and 30 ore and take 40, 60, and 80 seconds to research. The first level requires a Factory. The second and third require a Laboratory.

Barracks FAQ

How many Barracks should you build?

The limit is four: one is enough for occasional reinforcements, while a constant stream of infantry takes two or three, since a single Titan occupies a Barracks for 45 seconds and one queue quickly becomes a bottleneck. Demolishing a spare Barracks only makes sense to free up space for other buildings once the base is fully built: demolition takes 20 seconds and is free, but the 12 ore invested will not come back — plan how many Barracks you need in advance.

Why can’t I order a Titan?

The Titan needs a Laboratory (and a Factory before it) and 4 free energy. The order button stays active, and the game itself hints at the reason: if the required building is missing, the Titan icon is dimmed, and if energy is short, trying to order brings up the “Build more reactors” warning.

The Barracks is the foundation of the army.
