Efficient Worker use for ore harvesting
A starting deposit usually has four ore fields. Eight Workers are generally enough for such a base: about 1.5 Workers per ore field plus two more for construction.
For second and third bases that do nothing but mine, fewer Workers are enough: 2 ore fields — 3 Workers, 3 ore fields — 5 Workers, 4 ore fields — 6 Workers.
On resource-rich maps, you can build three or four Centers and strengthen the economy substantially. Maximum energy is 65, requiring four Centers and five fully upgraded Reactors.
On large deposits with six or more ore fields, you do not need to maintain a ratio of 1.5 Workers per ore field: that would consume too much energy that could be spent on the army.
An aggression distance of 12 determines how far away the Worker can automatically notice a repair or harvesting target.
